[ Reynir is so READY this time to be able to understand Klaus's unique way of typing, and he's even got a couple notes, which help him to get that ne1 is anyone, but that doesn't mean he really understands. ]

Why would you put smoke into a pot? Like for cooking?

[ I mean. Bless his heart. ]
braidmage: (:? shy)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-08 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
My name is Reynir.
But yes, it's me, the braid boy from the farm.

[ As for the other question... ]

Is pot meaning something other than a big sort of bowl container, here?

[ They absolutely have pot in Iceland, even in the postapocalyptic future, Reynir is just far too sheltered to know that. ]
braidmage: (:o confusion)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-08 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Reynir has no idea he thinks he's just really crushing this deciphering thing. ]

That's okay, they're there to grow food for us, and it wasn't like you ever took enough it would hurt the plants.
They're runes. To help things grow, keep away rot. You know, mage stuff. (Boring mage stuff).

[ He's starting to understand, at least. He's naive but he's not a baby. ]

Hi... like, high?
As in it's a drug?
braidmage: (:? fascinated)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-08 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we should do that.

[ When they do, maybe Reynir can explain that even if runes don't work for Klaus, he might have kinds of magic that operate by other means. But he'll save all that for in person. Typing out all that would take so long and some things are best taught in person. ]

Wait, so you're saying it's a kind of drug, and when you take it, it blocks out the voices of the dead?

[ This is EXTREMELY RELEVANT to Reynir's interests. ]
braidmage: (:( side-eye)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-08 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Any morning should work. I'm usually up there looking after things early in the day.

[ Reynir sees some regular faces there, some of which he hasn't put names to. Maybe one of them is Klaus? He'll just have to find out. ]

So it isn't just this plant in particular, but using drugs in general cut off your ability to hear souls?
If that's the case I can see how it would be tempting to make a habit of it.

[ He might not know what pot is but addicts still exist, and Reynir has probably known an alcoholic or two from the village he grew up in. In a lot of ways it's not an easy world to live in, even somewhere as safe as his home. So he can immediately see when Klaus is talking about getting off the stuff that he's talking about something that had become a Problem. ]
braidmage: (:o conversation)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-09 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Before noon?

[ He's willing to keep the window relatively large to be accommodating! ]

As far as I know, there aren't any such methods for mages in my world.
You just sort of have to get used to the screaming.
I was lucky at least and I grew up in a country where there aren't any trolls, so I didn't even know I could hear them until this year.
But I have friends who have had to hear them all their lives.

[ Then, thinking about Onni and Lalli, Reynir has an idea and asks: ]

So you made this post because you are offering to share?
Might be interesting to see what impact it has on other mages.
Is it dangerous?

By choice?
braidmage: (:( distress)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-09 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's useful at least.
Out in the Silent World people who can't hear them are vulnerable.
There could be trolls nearby and they wouldn't know it.

I don't know how it would interact either.
But as far as I know there aren't any physical differences between mages and other people.
We get drunk, antibiotics make us not get infections, etc.

But it's a good thing, right? Not having had anything harder.
Because the harder stuff is bad for you?
Just making sure I understand.
braidmage: (:) things looking up)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-09 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
None taken. I talked about my world to people more when I first showed up here. But then it kept making people really disturbed and upset hearing about it so I kind of just stopped.

How much is too much?
Could you maybe please make me some kind of guide, to know how much to use and how to use it?
In exchange for that fruit you picked from the farm ;)

[ Look at this baby growing up learning emoticons. ]

But you did quit!
That's awesome.
braidmage: (:? fascinated)

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-11 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Is there a difference in the impact, between those ways.
I have a friend who I might try it with who really liked baked goods...
I'd appreciate that a lot.

Wait, is it wrong to say that about quitting?
Did I break a social rule I'm not aware of
(I keep doing that)

and crave insane amounts of taco bell at 3 in the morning

[personal profile] braidmage 2019-12-11 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ Okay. Weird, but he's rolling with it. Taking it literally for now. ]

That seems like a very specific set of things it makes you do.
Most of the drugs we have do things like stop infections or bring down fevers or numb pain.

[ He's... clearly just talking about medical stuff, here This may be a hopeless case. ]
livingdeadgirl: (frown 8)

[personal profile] livingdeadgirl 2019-12-16 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
thats because they are medicines!
pot is not a medicine
some people say it is but thats just to get around the law
all it actually does is get you high and make you stupid

[ Disclaimer: Ami's inaccurate information and views on legalization are not representative of the mun's. ]

[ This is just getting more and more complicated and Reynir can tell he’s wandered into some kind of controversial area, because looking over the whole post there’s a lot of conflicting opinions and he isn’t sure what to believe. Perhaps it isn’t a medicine, but has certain effects on mages like Klaus? And what Ami’s saying doesn’t make much sense, because laws are laws and making excuses doesn’t make breaking them less illegal, so why do it? Wouldn’t people just break the law and be honest about why they are, if they wanted to.

He’s just going to have to ask Onni what he thinks. And he keeps his response unusually circumspect: ]

Oh! Okay.
I was confused. Thanks.

livingdeadgirl: (smile 9)

[personal profile] livingdeadgirl 2020-01-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ Reynir... this may come as a shock, but breaking the law is generally not a thing honest people do...

BUT ANYWAY. Ami is relieved that he gets it! But she just wants to make sure... ]

no problem
so you know not to do it now right? :)
