[A few conversations have led her to mulling more on this than she would do normally. Maybe it's the lack of having to fight for her life constantly, or certain questions she's been asked, but...]

Is there a way to find out if you're a clone? Does it matter if you are?

Does it mean you're worth less?

[She snickers quietly and shakes her head.]

Oh, no... she isn't. She was terrified, and so was I, but she couldn't just leave me there to be eaten by that witch.

[Poison closes her eyes for a moment, then sighs.]

But then I couldn't leave her behind, so I brought her with me.

[I mean he can't help but chuckle when Poison says that Peppercorn was not, in fact, a badass. God she's so brutally honest sometimes, but that's part of what he loves about her.]

You know, part of being a badass means doing something despite being terrified. So to me, it sounds like you were both badasses.

[She smiles slightly and for once, she doesn't argue. Looking back on it now, the two of them had been brave... but it hadn't felt like it at the time.]

It's probably one of the most frightening things I've ever done.

[Peter can totally relate, at least. He's done so many terrifying things and he'd been scared the whole time. You never feel brave in the moment when it comes to stuff like that.]

Jesus, I bet. Your world sounds like it's just full of weird, scary stuff.

It is... but I've never really thought about it.

[She huffs a sigh out and leans into him again, her eyes dipping half closed.]

We lived all the time knowing that children could just be taken away in the night, or maybe you'd catch swamplung and die... or maybe a goatfish would take your hand, or your leg. I always found the idea that I might just... fade into obscurity and never achieve anything to be far more frightening than anything else.

It's funny you say that. There was a time in my life where I thought that was just going to be my life, and I was kind of okay with it. Not the achieving nothing part, but just the simpleness of... of being a nobody, I guess. Can't really imagine thinking like that now, though.

[He's happy to sit here with an arm around her, and he will totally be her pillow if she ends up dozing off.]

I can't imagine you ever being a 'nobody'. [Poison says thoughtfully. She's not too tired, but he's comfortable, so she leans against him and gets settled there.]

I think you were always going to do something great. If it wasn't one thing, it would be something else.
