devices and network.

A quick primer on character devices and the network.

Every character who wakes up in Anchor is offered a communication device upon arrival from a shelf in the arrival room. These devices aren't your standard smartphone. Clunky and functional rather than sleek and attractive, they are futuristic satellite phones. They might not be pretty, but they're highly functional and feature a wide variety of functions - the standard text, audio, and video calls are there, but the sat phones also offer options for short-wave radio, GPS navigation, and life signs detector.

Inside the city of Anchor, all functions work properly, though the GPS may lead you to locked doors or barricades. Outside the city, all functions start to degrade the further characters travel. Immediately upon leaving the city, video and audio functions no longer work, then text is lost. While short-range radio, GPS, and life signs detection work outside the city, they are spotty and can either cut out entirely or malfunction and misfire or give false information. Technical issues with the sat phones get worse the further away from Anchor the device is taken.

When a character chooses their device, they will be prompted to create a network username that will be consistently used on their posts, but can be changed no more than once a month.
