BACKDATED TO 21 JULY - two posts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon - username: cho
[VIDEO POST VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING]
[ Cho's camera feed turns on to show her holding it in "selfie mode" with her face slightly off center to show the kitchen set-up behind her, in need of some elbow grease to get it up to scratch, but still way bigger and better and all around nicer than the little areas in their quarters. ]
Guys. There's a kitchen! A really big one. I know we've probably all been making do, feeding ourselves with whatever we find and using the little kitchenette areas in the-- barracks? Are they still called barracks when it's not the military?
[ She has no idea, and that's also not the point. ]
It seems that a much more efficient use of time and resources would be to have communal meals. This kitchen is more than big enough to get all of us fed at once. I can do a lot of the cooking, but I'll still need some help. First, this place is going to have to be cleaned. I haven't found any cleaning supplies yet, but I also haven't checked every storage area. A couple of volunteers would speed that up, and probably keep the time from dragging. Work always seems more fun when you're not alone. Then, for meal prep, I could also use some help. There's a decent number of us. That's a lot of scrubbing and slicing and chopping for one person.
You don't need to be a good cook, or even have any sort of kitchen experience. If you know what end of a knife to hold, and that sugar tastes better in tea than salt, I can teach you.
[ Her enthusiasm is high, her smile is bright, and she looks incredibly hopeful that someone will respond. She's been wallowing for too long. If she's not getting out of here any time soon, then she really needs to make the best of things. Today is the first day that she honestly thought she could get on the network and not break down crying, because today is the first day she felt like she could do something to be helpful here. Food is a shot in the dark. She can make that a little easier. She can make a difference, even if it's a small one. ]
If you're interested in helping out with any of this, please let me know. If you have dietary restrictions, definitely let me know. Meals will probably be fairly simple until we get a good handle on just what we can expect from the plants and animals here, but once more resources are available, I can probably take requests.
I was thinking between seven and nine for breakfast, and six and eight for dinner. Lunch could be a longer period of things that are easy to grab and go. Or... maybe we could do some sort of packed lunch for people who'll want to pick one up during breakfast? So they won't have to come all the way back to the dining room if they're not working close by. Would anyone be interested in something like that?
[ All right, so she didn't think this the whole way through before getting on the network. She got a little carried away in her enthusiasm. She still feels good about it, though. Better than she has since arriving. ]
[[[AUDIO POST LATER IN THE DAY, BUT WITHOUT THE NEED FOR AN ADDITIONAL POST IN THE COMM]]]
[ A few hours later, and would you listen to that? Cho's back! Sounding far less hopeful and very much terrified. She's breathing heavily, and her voice shakes when she speaks. ]
I messed up. I shouldn't have--
[ Something heavy (like a large mutated creature) hits something solid (like a wall, or maybe a door) and she whimpers. ]
There is-- a thing. Out there. It's fast. Maybe there are more of them? I don't know. I just-- I ran.
[ Another muffled thump, another whimper. ]
It definitely knows I'm here. It's angry. I don't-- This places looked like there might be-- I don't know.
[ She wanted to gather some supplies for those big communal meals she was so excited about this morning. She thought there might be some sort of crops, the way everything was so overgrown. Something edible, or maybe a way to access wherever the orchard is. Why else have a building like this in the midst of an area with all these plants and trees? That's not really a thought she can hold in her head right now. ]
I'm near the top of the city. I'm--
[ There's some fumbling with the device, and then her GPS location comes on (she's in the hatchery's lab), along with a life sign that shows that she's healthy, but that her heart is going like a jackhammer. ]
I'm here. I need help. Please. I don't think I'm going to be able to outrun that thing twice. I need help. Please, I-- I need help.
[[OOC: If anyone would be interested in a log as a response to her second post, let me know. Might be a good way to get yourself some new CR with another hero-type.]]

[ His daughter's slumber parties, man. Those were a true test of his skill in the kitchen. ]
Re: video
Prep help would be extremely welcome, Mister Calhoun. It's a lot for one person, but I know a few of us could make it go much smoother and easier. It might even be fun!
Grace under pressure is worth just as much as technical skill, I've always thought. Besides, I wasn't thinking of anything too elaborate. Probably the kind of things we would want to make for ourselves, just made easier for everyone by pooling our resources and skills. Things like pancakes or french toast or waffles and fruit compotes in the morning, maybe some kind of baked egg dish. I've found that you can really improve the taste of canned vegetables by putting them in a nice quiche. I'm not sure where we would get heavy cream, but I think we can come up with something else that will be just as nice. Muffins are a good way to hide a serving of vegetables in a tasty way, too, and they could probably carry over well to be snacked on throughout the day...
[ She has ideas. Many ideas. Not complex ones, but they're still ideas, and they're making her feel like she's taking a pro-active role here, rather than just wallowing. Look at that grin spreading even further. Come on, share ideas with her! ]

I bet we could make a veggie bolognese for dinner. [ He furrows his brow, looking a little perplexed. ] Or is it a ragu? [ Wait, hold on, he has to think about this... ] Are they the same thing...?
[ ...
ANYWAY. ]
Ooh, how are we on grains and beans? As long as we've got the staples, there's so much we can do!

You should come take a look when you have some free time. There's a really decent supply of food here. This place-- must have fed a lot of people... at some point.
[ Oh, look, she made herself sad. Right. No time to be sad! Pushing through to the other side! Get that smile back! Dial the enthusiasm up to eleven! No time for being sad! ]
Which is good news for us! Lots of choices!

I think I just turned vegetarian. [ But! He's going to try to keep the enthusiasm going, because now he's sad, and she's getting sad, and we can't have that. ] Yaaay...
[ It's a weak yay, but he's trying! He even shoots a smile and a thumbs up and everything. ]

[ Cho just shrugs. She's not sure specifically what Pratt's aversion to eating meat is. If he wants her to know, he'll tell her. ]
If you decide you just turned vegan, that will make my life a little more difficult, but I think I can still work with it.
