I might be tempting fate by doing something relaxing, but--

[Poison trails off for a moment, muttering something just out of earshot of what the device is able to capture. While what she's saying can't quite be made out, it sounds scolding.]

I'm making some bread in the kitchens. Um. If anyone wants to join me I can personalise a roll for them.

[It's not too often that Poison actually offers out her company like that, but... she's feeling the need for some living companionship very keenly right now.]

Or we can just talk. That's fine, too.

[But she won't judge him too harshly if he's never made it before. Poison glances his way briefly, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.]

At least ten mintes. Then you put it in a covered bowl to let it rise.

[Then you punch it, which he might just be thrilled to hear about.]

Oh! Can I try?

[He doesn't want to just butt in, but he does want to participate. Gokudera won't learn otherwise, he feels.]

Do we cover it with a towel? [He's not sure what purpose covering it will do. Does it need to be in the dark to rise?]

Mhm, or some of-- this... stuff.

[She plucks a roll of film out of a drawer and waves it around. One of the books she had found had mentioned this and it had taken her a while to figure out what it was.]

But I prefer the towel. It doesn't stick to itself.

Let’s use a towel, then.

[Gokudera fetches one after pulling open a few drawers. None of the ones lying about seem clean enough by his standards, so he offers her a fresh one.]

Thanks. [She takes it with a smile and runs it under some warm water first, wringing it out before she covers the bowl over and sets it aside.]

I don't think I've seen you in here before.

So they have to be damp? [Gokudera knows almost nothing about making food, and especially nothing about yeast or bread.]

I was never really allowed in kitchens...

Mm. For the humidity, I think. It helps.

[Some of these things, she does without thinking too hard about it because that's simply the way she was taught. She does pause a moment to consider the reason, but then shakes her head and moves on to the next, far more interesting thing that he says.]

You weren't allowed? Why not?

Huh...

[Makes sense, he supposes, but he’s interested in learning more. The science to cooking is interesting, and one he’s never considered learning about to much of an extent.]

I’m certain it was because I was too young, but I also think it may be because my sister used it to make poisons for me...

[It takes a moment to sink in, then she looks at him with thinly veiled, slightly sceptical alarm.]

Your sister would poison you?

Yeah. She has a skill with making most everything she touches poison, and would often test out her creations on me.

[He is, unfortunately, dead serious.]

That's--

[It isn't often Poison doesn't quite have the words for something, but this time she falls short on anything she could say that wouldn't seem facetious. Instead, she only shakes her head.]

I'm sorry.

Unbelievable? Scary?

[He wishes it weren't true.]

I've made it a habit to avoid kitchens because I'm used to seeing her in them, even though I haven't been near her in well over two years.

[Those are some words that could be used, yes. Poison only nods.]

Well... maybe you can make some better memories here. What do you think?

[He looks around and starts to gather some of the items and clean up.]

Is there anything we should be doing while we wait for it to rise?

Usually I just tidy up. [She says thoughtfully.]

Or read something. But we could make a cake. A simple one should be done by the time the dough is ready.

A cake? But... isn't that even more challenging?!

[He has NO idea.]

[She just smiles.]

I'll help you. It's not difficult, you just need to get the ingredients right. So, are you up to it?

Yeah.

If you say so.

[He's up to it, but a bit nervous.]

Don't worry.

[She smiles at him. Don't worry! She won't leave you to deal with it on your own.]

We'll need... sugar, and baking powder, and eggs. I think everything else is already out. If you want chocolate cake we need cocoa powder too.

[He always worries. Gokudera listens to her and nods at the ingredients she lists off before going on a small hunt through the kitchen for them. Instead of baking powder, he grabs baking soda, and decides against chocolate. It's good, but he's not feeling very adventurous.]

There. That's everything? [He looks around to the everything else she had mentioned.[

[He's doing his best, so she lets him investigate the kitchen and see if he can find everything they need while she clears up the space on the counter for them to start making something new.

When he puts everything down, she picks up the baking soda and looks thoughtful.]

Is there no baking powder?

[This can work, she just needs to do something a little different.]

[He looks proud of herself and watches as she picks up the baking soda. Then, his grin falls and he approaches to look at the box.]

Oh. I misunderstood. There should be! I thought they were the same....

[And now he's embarrassed while he goes to retrieve the baking powder, which is readily available.]

Here.

[He sets it down, takes a small step back so as not to crowd her, and waits for further instruction... Or, unfortunately something he's felt a bit more accustomed to since his long time on Amoi... some reprimanding.]

That's all right. You're learning. I wouldn't have known either.

[So she puts the baking soda to one side and waits while he gets the correct item, and smiles at him when he comes back. Poison always smiles like someone not entirely used to smiling, but her eyes are warm regardless.]

You need to come here, you're going to be measuring everything out.

You definitely said powder...

[He says, sulking a bit at his own stupidity. The smile is nice, but he's so used to discrimination that he hangs back for a second until Poison tells him he needs to come closer. When it was illegal for an Elite to touch him, being close just makes him feel a bit on edge. Not her fault. Not at all, but he is... odd.]

Okay. How much of the baking powder?

[Since that's in his hand already.]

Am I putting everything in the same bowl, or do certain ingredients have to be mixed separately? [He has a very basic idea of what needs to be done, and maybe dry ingredients should be mixed in one container, and wet in another? Which gets added to which?]

Put the dry ingredients in first.

[She doesn't move too far away from him, but given he hasn't complained so far about her putting him in charge of all this, she's just going to let him get on with it. Normally, Poison wouldn't really measure things out so precisely at all, but maybe it's better if...

The young woman moves away to grab some scales and a set of measuring cups and spoons.]

A teaspoon of the baking powder should be enough. [And she holds up the little plastic spoon with 'tsp' marked on it.]
