[ Here's a Poe, fussing with the communicator he doesn't realize he already turned on, trying to get the setup the way he wants it. For an ace flyer and mechanic he's kind of an idiot sometimes.
A lot of times.
BB-8 rolls into the room behind him, which just looks like any barracks room in the dusty spaces they've apparently been given. The droid looks at the communicator, then looks at Poe and whistles in a way that manages to communicate resigned amusement. ]
Hang on, bud, I'm--what do you mean it's on already?
[ Poe peers at the thing, then turns his head away and swears inventively in several nonhuman languages before he looks back at it. ]
Of course, why not. [ He finally gives up trying to fuck with it and plops down on the nearest bed.
Deep inhale, soft exhale, just do this, stay calm and do this. ]
Hey, so, I've had a couple of false starts already, thinking I recognized people and them being different versions of themselves and... all of that. Different universes. Gets kind of confusing but less surprising after a while. [ He licks his lips, his attempted calm dissolving into something that veers close to panic for those who know him well, then he drags in a breath again and bites his lip until he's calmer. ] Right. Anyone here familiar with places named Hadriel or Riverview?
[ More quietly: ] And if... if anyone's seen a person named Finn, or one named John Sheppard, could you let me know?

I don't even know how many bars there are here, but that works, I'll meet you at the bar.
[He's going to be super into that little robot buddy of Poe's later but right now he's got Places To Be.]
no subject
BB-8 rolls along at his heels, jouncing now and then over uneven ground or bits of debris.
When Poe gets to the bar, he almost doesn't stop running until it's too late, slamming into Peter and lifting him off his feet into a hug. He grins. ]
Hey kid.
no subject
Hey. C'mon, man, put me down.
[He can't even pretend to be annoyed right now, the dumb grin on his face makes it impossible.]
no subject
BB-8 whistles an inquiry, and Poe takes a step back, grinning down at his droid. ]
Right, sorry buddy--Peter, BB-8. BB-8, Peter. This little guy is my flight partner. I thought I'd lost him when I got to Hadriel, but apparently he got dumped here while I got dumped there.
no subject
But damn Peter looks absolutely delighted by this little round droid. Bless his nerdy nerdass heart.]
Oh my God, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life! Hey, buddy, nice to meet you!
[You bet your ass he's crouching down to greet this small ball robot properly.]
no subject
Poe sighs happily, eyes on the droid. Peter should think he's the coolest thing he's ever seen because BB-8 is the best. ]
Didn't know if I'd ever see this little guy again. He was with me in the first place I went, Riverview? But I got to Hadriel and he was gone.
no subject
And by that I mean Peter is gently taking this tiny grabber into his hand and giving it a little shake. Once Poe mentions Riverview and Hadriel though, his robot excitement mellows out almost immediately. Poe was supposed to go home. This bullshit right here, him being stuck somewhere weird yet again, it isn't fair.
Aaand Peter isn't entirely sure what to say about it, so he ends up staring awkwardly up at Poe for a couple more seconds than he really wants to be staring.]
I, uh. I'm sorry we couldn't get you home.
no subject
He can't say it's okay because it's not, not in any way, shape, or form. Poe would probably be buckling on a protective suit and seeing how far he could walk outside before he collapsed if he'd shown up completely alone. But the droid had been here. The droid had given him something else to focus on until he could sort himself out enough not to give in to complete despair.
It's still lurking, that feeling, but it's at least held in check. ]
If I hadn't showed up here, who knows? Maybe I really would never have seen BB-8 again. He said he'd been here for a month before any of us walked out of that decontamination chamber. He'd been on his own that long. I owe this droid my life, several times over, and I'm not the only one he's saved. The thought of him being here alone, of being left here alone....
[ Poe shakes his head. ]
Could be worse. We've got some familiar faces, right? [ He reaches out and gives Peter's shoulder a little squeeze. ]
no subject
And now he just feels bad for bringing it up, for making Poe feel like he had to comfort him. Mostly he feels bad that he actually is feeling comforted by the idea that he isn't the only one from Hadriel that was stuck here. It makes him feel like he's being selfish, which he probably isn't??? But he's developed himself Some Issues over the past year-ish, don't mind him.
He does manage to relax a bit when Poe mentions how long BB-8 had been here alone for, though. He can feel a little better about Poe being here if he already had a buddy to look out for here to begin with.]
Sorry, I just... well, you know. This sucks, but um. Yeah, could be worse.
[He'll concede to that much. Yeah, this could totally be worse.]
no subject
Right. So let's both avoid wishing we were here alone or feeling bad that we're not. Speaking from experience? Having someone who's been through it all with you is a good thing. All right?
[ He eases back to his feet and offers Peter a hand up. ]
Have you explored much?
no subject
Yeah, I've been around a bit. Found a library, got outside and did some repairs, found some labs and stuff, got a place to like, live, I guess. Stayin' with a girl I met in Hadriel. I kind of feel like there's a lot of us here.
no subject
[ First, there was finding a nice quiet room to destroy in a fit of tears and rage. Then there was finding the garage, which also contained his droid. Then there was the whole... trying to get a handle on any feelings at all in order to ask about Finn and John.
He'll forgive himself for it, though. Which is a step forward in a lot of ways. ]
...There are a lot of Hadriel people here. I wonder if we're-- I dunno, like next to the universe Hadriel was in or something.
no subject
[He says it in a way that probably makes it sound like he's joking, but he's not even joking a tiny bit. He's been on the verge of some sort of breakdown since about halfwayish through the fight with the Null? The only thing keeping him going is that there are always people around who probably need help, and he feels like he needs to keep it together for them.
That's healthy for a teenager right????]
I dunno. Maybe once we get this place up and running again we'll be able to figure that out.
no subject
[ He does. Too well. Which is exactly why he doesn't make a big deal out of it himself. He knows sooner or later Peter is going to break, and when that happens he'll have to have his own shit together enough to take care of the kid. ]
Where're you staying? You and your Hadriel friend?
[nOT THAT HE'S GONNA HOVER OR AnyTHiNG.]
no subject
Oh uh, her name is Poison. We are iiiin...
[hang on, he's still learning his way around this wacky joint. He reaches into his pocket for his phone. Damn thing can't make any calls but at least he can leave notes for himself on it.]
Uh, double 015. It's not too bad. I mean, for a creepy dorm on an abandoned, possibly haunted space station, anyway.
no subject
Yeah, that covers the bases, I'd say. Your friend, Poison, is she around your age?
[ He looks upward, like he can see the dome enclosing Anchor through the roof of the bar. ]
You going to work on repairing some of the tech around here? I think I can do something on the agricultural levels. Grew up on a ranch.
no subject
[Insert vague hand gestures that don't really mean anything here. Poe hadn't asked all that shit, Peter, he just asked if she was around your age GOD.]
Y-yeah, uh, I've already fixed a couple things. I was going to look into making sure the computers and stuff in the uh, medbay? Hospital? I wanna make sure all that stuff works, there are some labs in the agricultural area that I wanna look at too. It's not really my area of expertise, but it never hurts to learn some new skills, right?
no subject
She probably would. [ He doesn't have much to say beyond that, honestly. He's not about to bring attention to it if Peter has a crush--and besides, from where Poe is standing, it could as well be one friend looking out for another. It's the kind of thinking they'll all need to stay sane, here. Caring about each other and figuring out ways of showing it is what's kept him from going to more pieces than he already has. ]
--good idea. About the medical stuff. [ He grins at Peter. ] We'll have you tilling fields in no time. Me'n Bee are also going to work on one of the airframes in that garage up near the surface, if you want to help.
no subject
Mm, tilling fields. I don't know about that, I am one thousand percent a city boy. I mean, we'll see! But yes, I absolutely want to help you guys in the garage, are you kidding?
no subject
[ The fondness on Poe's face as he looks down at the droid is absolutely unmistakable. HE LOFF HIS DROID A LOT. ]
He rebuilt my starfighter almost on his own, one of the times it got torn up.
no subject
[This tiny robot with no arms built a goddamn STARFIGHTER WHAT. We need to build a BB-8 army.]
Not gonna lie, I'm probably going to ask to borrow this little dude like. Once a week.
