[ Here's a Poe, fussing with the communicator he doesn't realize he already turned on, trying to get the setup the way he wants it. For an ace flyer and mechanic he's kind of an idiot sometimes.
A lot of times.
BB-8 rolls into the room behind him, which just looks like any barracks room in the dusty spaces they've apparently been given. The droid looks at the communicator, then looks at Poe and whistles in a way that manages to communicate resigned amusement. ]
Hang on, bud, I'm--what do you mean it's on already?
[ Poe peers at the thing, then turns his head away and swears inventively in several nonhuman languages before he looks back at it. ]
Of course, why not. [ He finally gives up trying to fuck with it and plops down on the nearest bed.
Deep inhale, soft exhale, just do this, stay calm and do this. ]
Hey, so, I've had a couple of false starts already, thinking I recognized people and them being different versions of themselves and... all of that. Different universes. Gets kind of confusing but less surprising after a while. [ He licks his lips, his attempted calm dissolving into something that veers close to panic for those who know him well, then he drags in a breath again and bites his lip until he's calmer. ] Right. Anyone here familiar with places named Hadriel or Riverview?
[ More quietly: ] And if... if anyone's seen a person named Finn, or one named John Sheppard, could you let me know?

[ One whole minute! Give or take.
Finn hadn't gotten all that far into this particular level before he started poking at this new phone. That's a stroke of good luck.
One could pretend he doesn't make his half of the trip by storming over breezeways and through hallways like a man possessed, in the same way that one could pretend he doesn't break into a dead sprint the very moment he catches sight of Poe (who he thinks it's safe to say he'd recognize just about anywhere by now). But it would be wasting a lot of time on a lie, because that is exactly what Finn does. This is "break in a new universe" tradition. Yelling someone's name very loudly and running directly towards them, with the grace and single-mindedness of a bat out of hell.
There's no better way to deliver a traditional body-slam style hug, in his experience. ]

For a second after they crash together, Poe just hangs on. He just hangs on to Finn and cries. Relief doesn't begin to cover the spectrum of emotion Poe feels pulling him under. Relief doesn't even touch it.
He buries his face against Finn's shoulder and laughs breathlessly, the tears still falling. ]
It's damn good to see you, buddy.
[ BB-8, at Poe's ankles, whistles a happy greeting of his own. ]

He could limp along without Poe, in theory. Do his part to avoid getting killed in a place with no guarantee of coming back from it, focus on whatever's right in front of him, function well enough.
He would really, really rather not have to do that, though. Poe's been one unwavering good thing for over a year. Even with ups and downs, even falling apart and trying to piece themselves and each other back together. It took a lot of work to relax into that. It took a lot of time to stop living on eggshells, waiting for the imaginary point where Poe would catch on that he didn't fit and then pull back.
("Outsider" follows Finn around like a ghost. Every time he finds someone whose company outweighs it, it's still hard to believe.
Poe's the only one he hasn't lost yet.)
He finds a grin somewhere, the irrepressible ear-to-ear kind, the disbelieving but not willing to question getting one single stroke of good luck kind. ]
You, too. Both of you. [ Yes he heard that whistle and it is a miracle, not accepting criticism. Trying to hug BB-8 is probably next on his agenda. ] I didn't think I would.
[ He doesn't ask about a theoretical Rey.
It's selfish, probably. But it would hurt more to pepper that probable disappointment in now than it will later on, and he'd like to put that off for a little while if he can. ]
